A few weeks ago I caught up with Klavskis and MajorQueros for a chat.
Here is what they had to say 🙂

Klavskis

Robo: Welcome, How did you start playing and casting Age of Empires? What motivates you to stream so much?

Klavskis: Thanks, i started playing Age of Empires when i was little(10-11y) on gameranger, but i only played CBA 8-10hours a day, and then started moving into arabia when i was 12-14, then i took a huge break, lost interest, as i was young and couldn’t understand the game good enough, then, when  saw it on steam and thought to myself- this old game has been remastered!?
I need to try this, i started casting once i started to understand the game better, and also just because i wanted to understand the game better.

Robo: You’ve been playing on HD for quite a while, has anything from the AoE All-Stars surprised you? Eg. What civs are being played the most, any interesting strategies?

Klavskis: I really like that pro players are taking HD civs to the test, new strategies are being crafted in these matches, also it is interesting how the civilization choice shifts, as the matchups become more counter based.

Robo: What do you think the final rankings of the 8 players will be?

Klavskis: In my opinion, Viper is the favourite, but i wouldn’t count Daut and Nicov out, Liereyy has had a tough start, but he might pull it aswell, i think the pressure is really getting bigger, as the weeks progress, and also Tatoh, In my opinion the most experienced HD player might pull out some tricks aswell.

Robo:  Whats’ your favourite Map, and civ? Why?

Klavskis: My favourite map is Arena(Woah, surprise), Mayans and spanish are my favourite civs, because their unique units are just so awesome to micro, aswell as they have nice flexible strategies in arabia aswell.
Arena, because you have access to a lot of strategies, involving every civ, aswell as, in my opinion arena is the fairest map in age of empires.

MajorQueros

Robo: Hello, How did you start playing and casting Age of Empires? What motivates you to stream so much?

MajorQueros: My dad introduced me to Age of Empires I at a young age. After that I didn’t play much untill I found a friend who played it quite a bit as well and it was fun to play together. We never really passed the 16xx mark though, but it was fun. After he kinda stopped playing I stopped as well, untill I ran into Derp. We are studying the same and we played together, learned together. I started playing more competitively around a year ago.
We (derp and me) were talking a lot about age after classes and he introduced me to memb. That was my first introduction of Twitch as well, I never heard about it before. So I was like: you know what? We should do this on the internet to see how many people will join and play / talk with us about the game. The first stream we got like 20 viewers and were completely blowm away by that amount of viewers. That was the moment I fell in love with streaming and started to watch Zak’s videos on Youtube. When I heard Zak talk about the game I loved his casting and knew I wanted to do this as well, so I took him as an inspiration and started to cast a bit myself.
I also noticed derp was improving way faster than me, which made me favor casting more as I dind’t need to be as good as him, but just look at the pros and entertain other people
What really kept me to Twitch is definitely the community and how great it is. They just keep coming back, talk with me and chill. That’s what I love. Entertain and build a community that is kind and helpful

Robo: You’ve been playing on HD for quite a while, has anything from the AoE All-Stars surprised you? Eg. What civs are being played the most, any interesting strategies?

MajorQueros: I haven’t watched a lot of other all stars games being played. As far as the games I watched myself I didn’t see a whole lot of meta breaking strategies yet as far as I can remember. Indians are strong and picked a lot, just like italians on water. I however do like how people start to be able to counter indians, now they know where their strength is, so I’m curious to see whether the indian player is going to adept to that in return. I also like how the meta has shifted in the last few years from drush fc to more feudal meta. I don’t like skipping feudal age, it’s just too much fun to watch / play :p
I also think other civs need to be explored more. I especially haven’t seen a lot of AoAK / AoFE civs and can definitely be refined / explored more.

Robo: What do you think the final rankings of the 8 players will be?

MajorQueros: I’m not really sure about the rankings, but tatoh has been doing quite well. I’d guess 1 viper, 2 nicov, 3 tatoh, 4 DauT (in my opinion DauT has been slightly underperforming) 5 Slam 6 Miguel 7 Liereyy 8 BacT

Robo: Whats’ your favourite map, and civ? why?

MajorQueros: I like etheopians a lot. They are top tier m@a into archer civ (my favourite strat) They also get pikes and halbs for free so they can transition into imperial quite easily. My favourite map is a tough choice. It depends a bit on whether it’s watching or playing. Playing budapest is quite fun and definitely a favourite. Watching open maps like bedouins / atacama or el dorado is a lot of fun as well
