Beware, spoilers ahead!

TheViper solidifies his position at the head of the table with a 3-0 destruction of TaToH, the 2nd placed player.

Another 3-0 victory for DauT, this week against Liereyy, has him placed to challenge TaToH for 2nd place over the next 2 rounds, and fight for a chance to play in the Grand Final. Unfortunately Liereyy is now out of contention for making a top 4 placement, but he can possibly fight for 5th place and the prize money awarded for that.

This round we also saw a second match from DauT, replaying his match that was originally played vs Tim, against his replacement miguel. This is another win for DauT in very convincing fashion. miguels other match this week, vs slam was a tightly fought series, and miguel managed to grind out his first set win, securing him some prize money. At this stage every player has won at least one set and some prize money!

Finally we had a dominant showing from BacT against Nicov, which combined with some unlucky map generations for Nicov, gave him a very nice win.

– Thank you to robo for writing this summary!

Game 1

Map: Steppe
Civilization: miguel – Burmese
                  DauT – Burmese

Opening with Man-at-Arms and switching into Skirmishers was the order of the day for both players. DauT managed his economy much better than Miguel and was able to advance to Castle age faster and drop a defensive Castle and start producing Arambai, Monks and Mangonels. Miguel attempted to defend with Knights and Skirmishers while booming but DauT’s army was simply too strong and slowly destroyed miguel’s town with siege.

Game 2

Map: Team Islands
Civilization: miguel – Italians
                  DauT – Italians

DauT abused the fact that Team Islands often has extra boars on the islands, and went for a very fast castle rush into Fire Ships. He lost his own fishing ships to miguel’s fire galleys, but quickly leveled the playing field once he got to castle age, and even started producing new fishing ships to replace those lost once he had some control of the water. Miguel noticed that DauT’s Feudal age time was very slow and landed some Archers to disrupt his economy but was thwarted by a Mangonel. Miguel regained water control once he caught up  to the castle age, but by this stage DauT was almost 20 villagers ahead and with that lead advanced to the Imperial age and landed for Condottieros while pushing water with Fast Fire Ships.

Game 3

Map: Arabia
Civilization: miguel – Indians
                  DauT – Indians

Miguel tried to be hyper aggressive with a Skirmisher and Spearman forward backed up by a tower to deny DauT’s berry bush. Unfortunately DauT was able to defend and push back the forward, and the economic toll on miguel was immense. Miguel had almost no defences at his base when DauT came with Spearmen and Skirmishers and quickly called gg.

Map: Baltic
Civilization: Nicov – Aztecs
                  BacT – Aztecs

The expected unit choice of Fire Galleys from both players opened this game. Nicov expressed surprise when BacT had some key Demolition Raft explosions go off, as he was not aware that Aztecs had received Demo Rafts in the expansions, they lack Demolition Ships in AoC. Nicov attempted to get to castle age quickly and retake water and boom up behind walls, but his map was very susceptible to Crossbowmen harassing woodlines, and once BacT arrived it was all over.

Game 2

Map: Arabia
Civilization: Nicov – Indians
                  BacT – Mayans

Drush fast Castle and walls was BacTs plan with an easily wallable map and safe back stone, gold and wood. Nicov’s Scouts cleared up the drush in no time, but were ineffective at breaking into BacT’s base, he quickly switched into Elite Skirmishers to defend his base. Both players slowed down the game at this point, booming at home and making occasional pushes through the middle. BacT rushed to Imperial age for Elite Eagle Warriors and cleared up some of Nicovs army. After a massive fight in the outskirts of Nicovs town where he had made a trap for BacTs army with some walls both players suffered tremendous loses, but as Nicov still wasn’t in Imperial age he was unable to continue the fight vs BacT’s technology advantage.

Game 3

Not Played, Nicov gave BacT the win.

Game 1

Map: Baltic
Civilization: miguel – Turks
                  Slam – Turks

Miguel killed slams fish very early in the game then promptly lost water his own just after clicking up to Castle age. They provided enough of a food boost to get his economy off to a great start and make some Light Cavalry to raid slam, who was expecting the standard Archer rush and had made defensive Skirmishers, which were demolished by the cavalry. Miguel ignored the water for the rest of the game and just had a very impressive boom, and pushed with Janissaries and Bombard Cannons. Slam who was not yet Imperial could only attempt to defend with mass Knights, but overwhelmed.

Game 2

Map: Arabia
Civilization: miguel – Indians
                  Slam – Britons

Slam tried to counter pick civilisations, choosing Britons and their strong archery line units to counter the expected Indian camels. Both drush fast castled, but miguel went full waller mode, double layer palisade walls all around his base. This delayed slam enough for defensive Town Centers to be constructed and Elite Skirmishers to be created. Slam abused the extra range British Crossbowmen have as much as he could, picking off Skirmishers and Mangonels where he could and getting enough of an advantage to build forward Castles as he went Imperial. Arbalests, Pikemen and Trebuchets slowly pushed into miguels base and though he tried valiantly to raid slam’s base to slow him down was not able to stop the juggernaut, losing access to any woodlines on his third of the map and conceding the game.

Game 3

Map: Team Islands
Civilization: miguel – Italians
                  Slam – Italians

Slam had a very greedy fast castle strategy, while miguel followed the standard Fire Galley rush plan. Once miguel realised slam wasn’t rushing for the water he landed some archers and kept running around slams woodline, dodging mangonels and harassing villagers. Otherwise there wasn’t much action until Imperial age, with both booming and preparing for the mass water fight. Slam tried to mix in Galleons with his Fast Fires but was shortly overwhelmed by the navy of miguel. Once miguel started landing condottiero it was all over for slam.

Game 1

Map: Highland
Civilization: DauT – Mongols
                   Liereryy – Mongols

Extremely fast Feudals for both players, thanks to the Mongol hunting bonus, fighting for the river in the middle of the map. DauT gained control quickly as he had more docks producing warships and managed to destroy Liereyy’s transport ship before he could sneak any archers across into his base. Liereyy on the other side, was unable to prevent DauT’s landing, nor stop him fish booming all along the river. DauT utilised this extra food income and was able to reach Imperial age before liereyy had even gathered the resources to age up himself. DauT then pushed in with Arbalests and Liereyy was unable to stop them.

Game 2

Map: Arabia
Civilization: DauT – Malians
                  Liereryy –  Indians

The game starts with Liereyy attempting to steal DauT’s boar, but is unable to lure it all the way back to his tc, only slightly delaying DauT, while losing a lot of health on his Scout. This comes back to bite him later, as when the first Man-at-Arm fight occurs, DauT wins convincingly due to better health pool on his units. Later in Feudal age, both players are making Archers and Skirmishers, DauT raids Liereyy’s woodline while Liereyy’s counter raid is trapped and decimated. DauT advances to Castle age quicker and quickly gains an advantage in army numbers with superior upgrades. Once Liereyy loses control of his gold the game is over.

Game 3

Map: Migration
Civilization: DauT – Italians
                  Liereryy – Malay

Fish booms are the order of the day for both players, DauT reaches Feudal and Castle age slightly before Liereyy but is unable to make any major inroads into taking water control. Liereyy goes for the central land mass quite early dropping a second town center to strengthen his economy,  but DauT forgoes an economy in favour of a fast Imp, quickly clearing the seas with Fast Fire Ships and harassing Liereyy’s new base with Condotierros. Once DauT manages to build a Castle giving him space to push into Liereyy and Liereyy is still not in the Imperial age yet he calls an end to the match.

Map: Baltic
Civilization: TheViper – Portuguese
                  TaToH – Portuguese

TaToH unfortunately loses a Villager luring a boar which is quite significant on a map like Baltic, where having a solid build order and strong economy is vital.TaToH quickly loses control of the water, and tries to sneak some Archers towards TheViper’s base while advancing to Castle. TheViper also lands some Archers at TaToH but neither player does much damage. TaToH attempts to regain water control, but TheViper continues to harass with Crossbowmen and Knights while not relinquishing his hold on the water.

Game 2

Map: Team Islands
Civilization: TheViper – Italians
                  TaToH – Italians

A back dock placement from TaToH indicates he is trying to be a little sneaky and confuse TheViper when he is unable to find his Fishing ships. The only problem is, TheViper does find it eventually and wins control of the water. Castle age approaches quickly for both players, but TheViper is able to land some Crossbowmen and kill a number of Villagers on TaToH’s woodline. This is such an economic toll that TaToH resigns.

Game 3

Map: Arena
Civilization: TheViper – Turks
                   TaToH –  Burmese

TheViper plays to the standard Turkish meta for Arena, Castle drop, make some Janissary and fight for the middle and some relics, then a quick Imperial for Bombard Cannons and trebuchets. TaToH on the other hand tries to abuse the Burmese monk related bonuses (relics are visible through the fog of war, and Monastery technologies are half price) to push for the relics early, then fast Imperial into Trebuchets, Arambai, Monks and Pikemen. He has some early success, taking down TheVipers only Castle, but of course, the mighty snake recovers with Hussars to counter the monks and the few remaining Janissaries he has to counter Pikemen, and destroys all of TaToHs army. TaToH recovers and pushes in again with Monks and Halberdiers, but TherViper again is able to hold and then push back. Once TheViper is knocking on TaToH’s walls and has some units raiding his farmers the result is clear and TaToH wishes him luck next round.
